16 Bars

Director: Sam Bathrick
Starring: Speech Thomas, Garland T. Carr, Tennyson Jackson

16 Bars is an intimate look at the lives of four inmates at the city jail in Richmond, Virginia, who are a part of a unique rehabilitation effort that involves writing and recording original music. The film follows their personal and artistic development as they produce and record with with Grammy- winning recording artist, Todd 'Speech' Thomas, from the hip-hop group Arrested Development. As the creative process unfurls and a chance at freedom draws near, each of these men must unearth painful elements of their pasts, which hold the key to a new chapter in their lives. The story is set in Richmond Virginia, the former seat of the confederacy, where the legacy of systemic racism, a spiraling opioid crisis, generational poverty, and a lack of mental health services have entrapped many of its citizens in a cycle of incarceration- which makes the city itself a unique case study for rising recidivism rates in the U.S. at large. Cold Case Hammarskjöld

Director: Mads Brügger
Stars: Mads Brügger, Göran Björkdahl, Dag Hammarskjöld

In 1961, United Nations secretary-general Dag Hammarskjöld’s plane mysteriously crashed, killing Hammarskjöld and most of the crew. It’s understood that because Hammarskjöld was, at the time, advocating for Congo’s independence (against the wishes of European mining companies and other powerful entities), the “crash” was an assassination. With the case still unsolved 50-plus years later, Danish journalist, filmmaker, and provocateur Mads Brügger (The Red ChapelThe Ambassador) leads us down an investigative rabbit hole to unearth the truth. He, his Swedish private-investigator sidekick, and a host of co-conspirators tirelessly pursue a winding trail of clues, but they turn up more mysteries than revelations. Scores of false starts, dead ends, and elusive interviews later, they begin to sniff out something more monumental than anything they’d initially imagined.

In his signature agitprop style, Brügger becomes both filmmaker and subject, challenging the very nature of truth by “performing” the role of truth seeker. As Brügger uncovers a critical secret that could send shockwaves around the world, we realize that sometimes absurdity and irony are the emboldening ingredients needed to confront what’s truly sinister.

Director: Ben Mullinkosson
Starring Peter Mullins;  Matthew Mullins

Two red-headed kids fight a lot, eat a lot, and grow up a little in a goofy coming of age story that looks at the small things in life that define who we are, or at least define that we're all dicks. Matthew has braces, likes soccer and has an irrational and extreme fear of dogs. Peter is obsessed with the reality TV show Survivor, loves the letter "C" and is terrified of Cheerios, the breakfast cereal. We follow these two brothers as they struggle to overcome their own fears, learn to accept each other's differences but mostly just piss each other off. Through playfully constructed vérité scenes, Don't Be A Dick About It explores expectations and imagination, fears and hopes, being normal and being weird.
